Title: How the network got its nodes: the genetic origins of complex and novel morphological traits Speaker: Mark Rebeiz Affiliation: University of PIttsburgh, USA Host: Élio Sucena Abstract: How do complex morphological structures originate and change at the genetic level during evolution? Answers to this question can be found in the vast gene regulatory networks which control each cell’s gene expression during development. Dr. Rebeiz will present work on rapidly evolving genital and pigmentation traits in Drosophila that pinpoint how networks are formed, merged, and altered to generate phenotypes.
