Principles and Methods for Wind Resource Assessment.

The Modern Planning of Wind Power Plants. Selection of suitable areas for wind energy systems installation:

A) The Planner Point of View. Wind Atlas Development for Planning Purposes. The use of Mesoscale Models for Wind Mapping. Assessing the wind potential in a country/region.
B) The Investor/developer perspective: to  Perform detailed wind resource evaluation in suitable areas by performing: i) Experimental measurements Campaigns; ii) Micro siting of Wind Turbines; and iii) Wind Energy Estimates of the layouts.

Design of the measurement campaigns: Duration, equipment, spatial and time detail/granularity.

Wind parameters and wind statistics: Wind distribution by classes (average and angular values); use of Weibull and Rayleigh (fitting) distributions.
Wind (daily, seasonal and annual) profiles. Capacity factor and NEPs.
