Promote learning about the metabolic and molecular bases of stress responses; empowering for the integration of the responses observed at different levels of organization of living matter: molecular, cellular and organismal; to highlight common responses and specific responses of different taxonomic groups (animals, plants and microorganisms); to show the importance that fundamental knowledge of stress biology has for solving societal problems (in health, agricultural production and biotechnology). Students should acquire the ability to (1) Understand the physiological and molecular mechanisms common to different stresses (2) Understand the metabolic and molecular mechanisms specific to certain classes of stress (3) Understand the integration between molecular responses, cellular responses and organismal responses (4) Apply laboratory techniques to the study of stress responses (5) Understand the terminology of specialized literature.
