advanced topic presentations

I would like to clarify that the presentations of the advanced topic will be taking place at the usual time (10:00 am) at the usual zoom link. (the times shown in the excel file were for the discussions last Wednesday)

The grades for the test and the sizing exercise have been posted. 


Comments on the true/false questions in the test.

  • A PV system designed to operate in the summer (when the sun is higher in the sky) should have a lower inclination than usual.
  • The diode protecting the battery from overnight discharge is called blocking diode, not bypass diode.
  • The efficiency of a PV module in a cold environment is higher, even if it may generate less electricity since there is less irradiation.
  • The energy payback of a PV module is 1-2 years, much less than its operational lifetime.
  • A spectrum rich in infrared can be better captured by lower bandgap solar cells.
  • Batteries should always be well ventilated because of degassing; they should never be in a closed case.

Advanced topics

The Advanced topics presentations will be held on Friday 18th, at 10am, in the usual zoom room.

If you haven't done so, you should fill in your topic/group in the excel file below.
I will be available on Wednesday 9th at 2pm, in the usual zoom room, to discuss with the different groups what are the most important issues to discuss regarding your selected topic. 
I remind you all that the slides have to be in English but presentations can be in Portuguese and that the audience-target of your presentations are your colleagues.
