Geometrical optics issues in imaging
3 Novembro 2016, 14:00 • José Manuel Rebordão
Some examples of conjugates planes using ray tracing examples, illustrating finite and infinite conjugates, curvature and spherical aberration.
Mirrors: real and virtual images; parabolic, ellipsoidal and hyperbolic mirrors and ideal imaging between (in)finite conjugates.
Prisms: types and functions.
Conjugate image equations in several contexts, mirrors, thin lenses, thick general systems between arbitrary optical spaces.
Transverse magnification and longitudinal magnification
Cardinal points: focal, principal, nodal. Relevance of principal points for setting up reference systems and several optical definitions.
Optical power as an optical invariant. Definition of diopter.
Concatenation of independent optical systems.
Aberrations: spherical, coma, astigmatism, curvature, distortion, chromatic. Main characteristics and main dependence on the pupil radius and position in the field.

Implementação laboratorial de uma luneta astronómica e de uma luneta de Galileu. Posicionamento e alinhamento das ópticas e observação das imagens resultantes. Caracterização das lunetas (ampliação, campo de visão e tipo de imagem). Comparação de resultados entre as duas lunetas e com os resultados esperados teoricamente. (Sessão 2)
