Lesson 15

24 Setembro 2020, 16:00 Maria Helena Mouriño Silva Nunes

Duration: 2 hours

Analysis of Variance. Evaluating the underlying assumptions: Levene's test to evaluate the homogeneity of the underlying populations. How to proceed when this assumption is not satisfied. A robust version of the analysis of variance in the case of heterogeneity: Welch statistic; Brown and Forsythe statistic. An example using the database "Evaluating risk for cardiovascular diseases in the Portuguese population".

Lesson 14

23 Setembro 2020, 16:00 Maria Helena Mouriño Silva Nunes

Duration: 2 hours

A brief summary of the previous class. Multiple Comparisons tests when the null hypothesis of equality of the means is rejected from the ANOVA table. Some examples based on the database "Evaluating risk for cardiovascular diseases in the Portuguese population".

Lesson 13

22 Setembro 2020, 16:00 Maria Helena Mouriño Silva Nunes

Duration: 2 hours

Comparing more than two groups. One-Way Analysis of Variance to compare the means of three or more populations. Null and alternative hypotheses. Assumptions of this methodology. ANOVA Table and its components. Test statistic and respective p-value. Examples based on the database "Evaluating the risk for cardiovascular diseases in the Portuguese population".

Lesson 12

18 Setembro 2020, 14:30 Maria Helena Mouriño Silva Nunes

Duration: 3 hours

A brief revision of the most important results studied in the previous classes for comparing two independent populations. The role of the graphical displays, as the case of parallel box-plot. Running independent t-tests. Transforming the p-values obtained from the outputs of the SPSS, based on the t-tests, when the alternative hypothesis under consideration is not bilateral but rather a left (or right) unilateral test. Several examples were analysed and discussed with the students.

Lesson 11

17 Setembro 2020, 14:30 Maria Helena Mouriño Silva Nunes

Duration: 3 hours

Application of the methodologies developed in the previous lesson to the database "Evaluating the risk for cardiovascular diseases in the Portuguese population". Comparing the cholesterol levels of individuals with and without diagnosed diabetes (the group with disease versus the control group).
