Objectivos
Introductory course on the environmental impact of buildings, in particular the energy consumed in the control systems of indoor environment. Fundamental concepts are introduced and exploited sizing exercises and calculations of energy consumption and environmental impact of buildings. In the second part of the course students study current building energy certification regulations and the software tools that are currently used to check compliance.
Programa
1. Regulation of buildings thermal performance and Energy Certification. 2. Heat transfer applied to buildings. Solar gains. Thermal networks. 3. Building energy balance and simplified methods applied to Regulations. 4. Psychometry and humid air. Mass transfer and condensation. 5. Thermal comfort and indoor air quality. 6. Calculation of thermal loads, dimensioning and design of air conditioning systems. 7. Heating and cooling systems (production) and delivery systems for heating and cooling. 8. Natural ventilation. Systems for mechanical ventilation, pumping hydraulic systems and air filtration.
Métodos de ensino e avaliação
The theoretical component is primarily expository with student participation. During theoretical-practical classes, students should complete a set of exercises. During laboratory classes students develop a practical project, which includes the building energy performance evaluation applying the corresponding building codes. Work should be delivered every two weeks via moodle (five papers). It is individual and mandatory, with an oral presentation at the end of the semester.
