Distinction between radiometry and photometries. Historical background, application areas, dynamic ranges.

Analysis of the generic radiometric configuration: sources, targets, background, media, instrument detector; emission, scattering, absorption; geometry; T-dependent blackbody emission and noise levels. Optical channel between target and instrument

Solid angles, stereo-radian.

Radiometric quantities (integrated and spectral): radiant flux, intensity, radiance, irradiance, emittance. Units. Dimensions.

Dimensions of the Poynting vector and Irradiance.

Electrical signal generation (at detector level) from irradiance (at image plane level) – simple model.
