Objectives:
Inspect outcrops of the Upper Jurassic through Lower Cretaceous to identify:
- depositional environments,
- evolution of water depth, e.g. deep marine facies, transitional facies (shallow marine to sub-areal), paleosoils,
- mass transport deposits of Upper Jurassic,
- tectonic structures (syn-rifting mass transport events, extensional faults (Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous, pos-rift compression (oblique slip reverse faults)),
- Upper Cretaceous magmatism),
- main Alpine thrusting at praia Grande and inspection of the Dinosaur footprints (Terapodes, ornithopod dinosaurs and sauropods … after exciting discussion among all of us).

1. Introduction to the Wilson Cycle of plate tectonics, tectonic settings and accommodation space in different tectonic phases.
2. Iberian Peninsula as an example of basin development in different phases of the Wilson Cycle: syn-orogenic basins, rift basins, passive margin basins and inversion tectonics.
3. Summary of the geology to be observed on the field trip on 14th November to the Lusitanian Basin in the south and north of the Sintra Magmatic Complex: syn-rift sedimentation, post-rift sedimentation, 4. Magmatism and 5. Tectonic inversion.
