Presentation of the course and photonics
10 Setembro 2025, 08:30 • José Manuel Rebordão
The role of the Master in Engineering Physics and the overall landscape
of Engineering Physics.
Introduction to the course. Information available on Fenix and on CIRRUS.
Contents (T). Laboratory work. Assessment. Background material requirements from
other courses, namely Waves, Acoustics and Optics (2nd year) and Fourier
analysis (series and integral transform).
Architectural options and technology performance indicators of optical
systems.
What can be measured when dealing with optical beams: optical
observables of 1st order (beam geometry, spectrum, phase, amplitude and
polarization) and 2nd order (correlation functions, coherence). Main
architectural options of optical systems.
